CKC Code of Conduct and Discipline Plan

CKC operates on a good faith code of conduct for our students and parents. Our co-op believes that all members should be mindful and practice these four basic rules:

*Be Safe

*Be Kind

*Be Neat

*Be Christlike

The foundation of the CKC Code of Conduct is to respect people, be good stewards of our resources, and create a safe and enjoyable experience for all members.

Grace, mercy, and forgiveness are characteristics CKC desires to instill in our co-op. Yet, these attributes do not always eliminate the need for behavioral consequences.  Even after forgiveness has been extended, CKC teachers and leaders may impose disciplinary consequences.

Some situations will require disciplinary measures, but we endeavor to treat each person fairly, with impartiality, respectfully, and in a Godly manner with grace and mercy.  For these reasons, we try to be as consistent as possible to follow the below procedures when discipline issues arise in our classrooms:

  1. Warning: A verbal warning, or warnings, will be given to students initially for minor behavior concerns.
  2. Classroom Behavior Management Strategies: Teachers should try in-class behavior management strategies for minor offenses. Such strategies may

 include:

  • Talking with the student privately in the hallway to review behavior and remind students of possible future consequences.
  • Moving the student to a different seat.
  • A temporary removal from a class (such as PE, or a short removal from an activity (such as painting, baking, etc).
  1. Teacher contacts parent: If warnings are ineffective, please talk directly to a parent during co-op time when possible. Phone calls are preferable to texting and email.
  2. Teacher contacts LaVonne Heatwole or a board member: If the teacher feels the behavior needs further attention, they should let a CKC board member know immediately. Behaviors that are routinely distracting to the classroom environment or unsafe for other children should be shared with a CKC board member. CKC board members will work with the teacher to create and enforce a plan of action designed to deter classroom disruptions and ensure all co-op members’ safety. Examples of such plans may include:
  • A teacher or CKC board member may remove the student from a class. The student will sit at the Point Person Desk or with a designated person. If this happens, the point person or board member will immediately contact the student’s parents.
  • A CKC board member may request that a parent accompany their child during some or all of the school day.

Please note: Regardless of whether the above steps are taken, CKC reserves the right to dismiss a student for repeated severe misconduct or any single violation deemed sufficiently serious.
