FAQs

Why do we clean the building when the church has a janitor?
We clean the building because:
• We agree to clean up after ourselves when we sign the facility use form each year, including cleaning bathrooms, floors and taking out the trash.
• The building is used every day, several times a day by groups large and small. There is no way two custodians could maintain the facility with the constant use it gets.
• The custodians take care of big jobs like waxing floors, steam cleaning carpets and repairing broken things.

Why have assistant teachers in so many classes?
Two-deep leadership has become the standard for children’s activities and you have probably seen this in your home church, scouts or other programs. Having more than one adult in the room reduces the opportunity for inappropriate behavior on the part of the adults and simultaneously protects adults from false accusations or misunderstandings. We will strive for two-deep leadership as much as practical, particularly with our younger children.
As an added bonus, the assistant is in a great position to lead the class when the teacher is absent.

What happens when I can’t be there due to illness or vacation?
At the start of each year, find several people with whom you can trade teaching responsibilities in the event of a last minute illness or planned absent day. These will be people who are not teaching at the same time as you. Our co-op has always displayed a beautiful giving spirit so be ready to jump in for someone else when the email comes!

What do I do with my children while I am working for the co-op?
Your children, newborn through eighth grade, have a supervised place to be while you are teaching and when you are on the cleaning team. You should not have your children with you while you teach or assist (unless you are teaching their class). Extra children are a distraction to the adults and children in the room. During your cleaning shift, one parent will be assigned to watch the children so the other mothers can clean efficiently.

What about my children who are enrolled in school but sometimes have Fridays off?
Our co-op supports FAMILIES. Bring them when needed. See our policies for more details about bringing children who are not on the class lists.
